Moreover you will know the history of Robotics and when was the first Robot Invented. You will also be introduced to LEGO MINDSTORMS Platform and you will know more about retired LEGO Robotics Products as the MINDSTORMS RCX and MINDSTORMS NXT, also you will learn about the MINDSTORMS EV3 and know the main components of the set. Note that MINDSTORMS Main Pieces are not explained in details in this lesson, you will find separate lessons for them. As strange as it might seem, there is no standard definition for a robot, but there are some essential characteristics that a robot must have and this might help you to decide what should your machine includes to be counted as a robot. These 4 Characteristics are Movement, Sensing, Intelligence, and Power which would all be explained in details in the lesson. Usually, people mix up between the uses and types of robots, although mostly the use of a robot is related to its type, for example, a pre-programmed robot (type) be used in manufacturing as an industrial robot (use) while an autonomous robot (type) could be used in space exploration as an aerospace robot (use). The first known robot was created around 400-350 BC by the mathematician Archytas and was an artificial bird. The modern concept began to be developed with the onset of the Industrial Revolution, which allowed the use of complex mechanics, and the subsequent introduction of electricity. Lego Mindstorms EV3 is the third generation robotics kit in Lego's Mindstorms line. It is the successor to the second generation Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 kit. The "EV" designation refers to the "evolution" of the Mindstorms product line. "3" refers to the fact that it is the third generation of computer modules, first was the RCX and the second is the NXT. The Lego Mindstorms EV3 consists of 1X Smart Brick, 2X Large Motors, 1X Medium Motor, 1X color sensor, 1X ultrasonic sensor, 2X touch sensor, 1X Gyro Sensor, which are all briefly explained in the lesson.
